Yeah, that's right. This functionality is not available in the mojos that just produce a zip archive containing the JNLP bundle. If you're deploying in a servlet container then its pretty simple to create a WAR that uses the JNLPDownloadServlet.

If so, in the alpha-2-SNAPSHOT version there is a JnlpDownloadServletMojo that can do what you're looking for.
