Okay I filed the bug report. Added jdom 1.1.1 manually to my local repo. Had to also manually add maven-plugins:maven-cobertura-plugin:plugin:1.3 maven-plugins:maven-findbugs-plugin:plugin:1.3.1 though I don't understand why since they were available in the central repositories. But I'm now able to bring up jmeter gui, which is great.
