yes, I believe that this is really necessary. I mean, I need to develop
a real java webapp, using templates and a REST api but of course I want
to design a state of the art ui using a lot of JavaScript and it would
be nice to structure the JavaScript like any other maven dependency.
That said, I have to say goodby to the javascript-maven-plugin unless
there is a comfortable way to separate the JavaScript modules from the
war module.

As you've discovered the situation is that html drives the process i.e. html
document pulls in a js file - a js file declares its dependencies and then they
are pulled in etc.
I should look for a js centric view where html is not part of the picture as
well.
