I see, although the hadoop libraries are still bundled in 1.2 for some
reason.

It's one more step towards Nutch  being less usable... it use to be
everything you need to do crawling/indexing/searching.
With 1.3 it gets even worse because you are forced into using Solr.

I think the goal should be kept into Nutch to be self contained.
