The only reason that the DbUpdater tool does not accommodate batchId field is that no one has added it... not because we (the community) can't. If you have purpose ans sufficient justification to add it, please submit a patch and we can add it. I would like to push RC's for trunk and 2.x branch soon anyway so it may even make it into the next release cycle.
