Which version of Nutch and which artifact are you using? Binaries for 1.x can be run directly from the nutch bash script. Source's for both 1.x and 2.x can be compiled using the default ant target which is simply 'ant runtime', you will then be able to again invoke the tool from the nutch bash script which will be available in runtime/local hth
