I was just composing a similar message! The suggestion I was going to make is that we consider doing a release candidate, making sure it is packaged for easy download and deployment and importantly announced that it's around. SVN is not always the most attractive for people looking to evaluate what the project is all about, as I see Jonathon has just responded with the same thoughts.
It might help to raise the interest and testing required to fix any final issues, as there is a lot of good work going into patching bug fixes in the release branch.
