IMO a small but important improvement would be that of keeping uptodate
the box with latest/important news.
We could even try to assign/delegate the maintenance of that small part
of the screen to a volunteer in the community (committer of even non
committer, even if for a committer will be easier) with the following tasks:
1) write down latest news, even small ones (for example: "implemented
new Balance Sheet report..." or "fixed important bug related to
security" etc...); it would be great to add a news at least every 48 hours
2) commit and deploy the page (if committer)
3) layout improvements
