Update
Turns out: this version has been working all along and I am an idiot for NOT testing this on the actual process. The Emails were sent just fine after all! But, the bright side is, that it is probably a good idea to take a second look at the partymgr new email screen. Right now those messages are not send whatsoever, they remain created in the background and are simply not set to the correct status.
