Thanks Jacques. I first looked at this excel spreadsheet but it seems
to be incomplete in regards to dependencies for the ecommerce module.

http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/download/attachments/9373097/OFBIZ+COMP+DEPENDENCIES.xls?version=2

IIRW the ecommerce component is at least dependent of Order, Party, Content, Manufacturing, Product, Accounting and the Framework of course.
So we could say that the ecommerce component is dependent of almost all other
components, it's easier to remember.

The documentation seems pretty sparse and unorganized for ofbiz, so
things are a little confusing to me. I kinda wish that adding
"features" be frozen and more development effort be focused towards
documentation and training. Other successful ERPs (like OpenERP) have
great documentation which is a huge advantage.

For the documentation: the difference is that Apache OFBiz is really community driven and it's difficult to organize the documentation with an open community On the stable release aspect: we are currently organizing things differently. Note though that there are already stable versions R4.0 and R9.04, even if they are not yet official Apache releases

Jacques

Thanks!

Mike

Hi. Sorry to bother you, but I noticed that you seem very
knowledgeable.

Regarding:
http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBADMIN/Component+and+Component+Set+Dependencies

Is it possible to run a multi-tiered ofbiz deployment where:

1) There there is a single powerful database machine (I know this is
true)
2) There are a couple (or a single) of back-end ofbiz servers that
are used by employees and the majority of ofbiz ERP OOTB
3) There are several, load-balanced ecommerce front-end servers that
run mostly ofbiz ecommerce

If this is true, then what components would the ofbiz ecommerce
servers need? I'm thinking that these front end ofbiz ecommerce
servers would be faster and use less memory. Will they allow users
to login and check that status of their orders?

The OFBiz ecommerce component relies on the Framework and call number
or services from other components notably Order, Party, etc.

Also, if I wanted to use ofbiz for simple ecommerce and accounting,
and later I decide that I now want another component, is it as simple
as uncommenting a component and things will just work (no database
migration)?

Yes, it's as simple as "uncommenting a component"

Is this possible with 9.04?

Yes it's ok with 9.04 but I would recommend to use the trunk rather.
It's far easier to update later...

Jacques

Thanks

Mike
