Google announced the participating organisation for this years summer internship programme and as was to be expected, the Apache Software Foundation made it once more.

It however appears to me that the Ofbiz community needs to do more to position itself to recruit students through the programme. A good way to do this is to come out with a list of project topics that the community will like to see work on and also a call for mentors.

On the eclipse plugin however, I realise it is more than a tool to make browsing ofbiz artefacts easily. I also has the really important feature of checking constraints across artefacts. This can be used to significantly prevent a whole class of errors. Also I think it may be possible to use it to provide code completion in eclipse since it is 'aware' of entity definitions and Java code - an issue raised in the brainstorming thread on the data tier.

Anyway as it's ASL2 licensed you can do what you want with it and even create a new project if you want.

I think the best would be to keep it as a part of OFBiz...

I am taking a look at the source files for the eclipse plugin by Anders Hessellund from here <http://www.itu.dk/%7Ehessellund/smartemf/index.php?page=sourcecode>. Glad to see that it is licensed under the Apache license.

Something that occurred to me was the "jurisdiction" of this project. Is it an Ofbiz project or an Eclipse project at least by the Google summer of code <http://socghop.appspot.com> programme.

Kojo.

Hello,
The Apache Foundation was accepted as a mentor institution in the Google Summer of Code programme last year and I believe the same will happen this year.

I would like to enter the internship programme with Ofbiz when Google starts accepting student applications on March 18th. I have been learning and developing with Ofbiz for almost a year.

Ideas from the community will be appreciated. I am considering working on the ofbiz-eclipse plugin, automated testing and things bothering on framework development.

Kind Regards,
