Some hints on accounting that may help: You can create 2 accounting periods (custom time periods), during the same time periods (from date and thru date are the same). Accounting Transactions will be posted on both of them. If you clean one of those periods, trans will keep being posted to the other.
Closing a time period will post totals to GlAccountHistory. You can set ending balances there for the previous time period ( say TimePeriod 2011). They will be needed in the current open time period (TimePeriod 2012). Note: try these on a test server.
