I have not done a core banking system but involved in a discovery phase for a Micro Finance Institution. IMHO, ofbiz will help only to the extent of CRM, ERP (for purchases, administration of inventory, HR, etc). For the core banking, as of now no open source alternative to my knowledge. I would like to share some info that i gathered in my last probe.
