I'm pleased to announce that a new OFBiz / BigFish site went live
earlier this week.
It's for The Swedish Institute and it's a bit of a twist on the
traditional eCommerce solution in that allows folks to register for
Continuing Education classes. Check out the site at:
http://online.swedishinstitute.edu/. There were many challenges in
building this site because class registration is just different than
purchasing a product (no shipping for example).
In addition to the registration site we built a custom OFBiz Alumni
Network site that allows Swedish Institute Alumni to register, update
their profile, search and post jobs / volunteer opportunities /
announcements and a custom message board function. There is also some
back-end- integration to synchronize Alumni profile information.
The Alumni Network site can be seen here:

you won't be able to do anything other than Locate a Practitioner unless
you're an authenticated Alumni.
Both the eCommerce site and Alumni Network share the same database, one
of Swedish Institutes primary concerns was complete integration of both
components so that the Administration aspect was seamless. Alumni users
are the primary users of the eCommerce site so having a single login and
a complete view is critical.
The good news is that OFBiz was a perfect solution for this -- the
Continuing Education site was fairly straight forward but The Alumni
Network is not a traditional eComm or ERP solution but we were able to
comfortably accommodate all of their requirements using the OFBiz
framework.
