I concur. This is happening when using the lookupParty function (e.g. when trying to a related party in the List Related Contacts section in an account in SFA).
Type-ahead is not yielding any results and though the popup appears with names, clicking on one to select it and populate the appropriate field leads to the error as said by lmac. @lmac: please register a JIRA issue.
