Hi Charles, Re: external server support The community decided, given that there wasn't much interest in (maintaining) that feature, a while ago to not support external server deployment anymore. Current 14.12 branch uses Apache Tomcat 7.0.64 libraries.
Re: mail functionality Yes, OFBiz offers mail capabilities. But it might be so that this isn't implemented for every wish dreamed up and it need to be realised for your specific requirements.
