Just to let you know that I'm looking into it right once the integration stuff with Tomcat is finished. As I see the issue appeared when embedding OpenEJB in Tomcat I think having the integration polished would be greatly appreciated. I'm almost done, so don't be too surprised to see the solution very soon ;)
Or perhaps you've found the solution by yourself, have you?
