Exactly right.  Put another way:

   When you make a call on a remote interface, a copy of the
   object is given to the bean.  Doesn't matter if that bean
   is on the same server as the caller, as when one ejb calls
   another ejb using it's remote interface.

You can either make TarHeader as Stateful SessionBean, or you
can just send back the modified TarHeader object.
