I’ve been tracking OM for quite a while (right about the time Apache incubation began) and while it is an impressive project I have always felt (in my own most humble opinion) that the UI and experience just wasn’t quite “there”. I’ve recently come across a very interesting project called Jitsi, which is also open source and also written in Java. The Jitsi project has a lot of applications which aren’t in line with what I believe is OM’s goal, but the UI and experience of their conferencing application (along with Android and iOS apps) is quite superb. But, I have found that it is missing some core utilities (scheduling, user management, etc.) and some of the nicer features of OM (white board, control sharing, presenter promotion). I say all of this to ask how (if it’s even possible) the journey of merging the two projects can happen. Take the best of both projects and make the best conferencing and communication client/system that even rivals commercial offerings.
My intention is not to demean the amazing the work being done here or at Jitsi. I am only interested in the bettering of both projects. Thank you for your input, replies, suggestions or telling me I should go to certain unpleasant places.
