The same exact thing as always, you lose your data. The same is the case now.

Absolutelly not!
If you encrypt the data on your device, and the encrypted data will be synchronize to the cloud, then other synced devices need to same key/password to decrypt this data. If the key/password is lose, then the data will be lost too.

But, if you store your pure data locally/remote on an encrypted filesystem (PC, owncloud data, mobile devices), all device will has different encryption method, so, if you lose the key/password any of them, your data will still available on other devices. That's what I said.
