I've seen the same thing happen with the native Mail app for Android.
Ended up downloading 2G of mail over pay-per-Mb GPRS instead of free
WiFi (thankfully not roaming). So there's really nothing the owncloud
team can do about this - they'd simply be relying on an Android API to
figure this out, and it's at fault
