I am not sure if we are on the same page. I am going to run ownCloud server on
a CentOS server at DigitalOcean. I will enable server-side encryption and use

Google Drive will only be used as an external storage. When using server-side
encryption, Google Drive will have no idea about files are being stored in it.
That means Google Drive will play no role in version control. Neither will I
use Google Drive to access anything and using server-side encryption means I
won't be able to access those files in deencrypted on Google Drive.

I was thinking on of using it because it's just $1.99 for 100GB.

a short summary on how it worked out for you would be appreciated by many on this list, I guess.
