Yes, OK, I have. :-)   I just quite like to know what's *supposed* to
happen before I try things.

It's not actually any use at all for me because I want to share a
common calendar between applications and the obvious way to do this is
by sharing a file.  Since this is just a manual export it doesn't
really help much.  I was hoping that maybe Owncloud would use the .ics
file instead of its database.

I can maybe set up a CalDav client synchroniser but it's much messier
to configure than just sharing a file and synchronising that.  (I'm
the only user so similtaneous access from more than one place isn't an
issue)
