I made sure that I am using the same commands in both shell and crontab, and I am running them with the same user. Also, I just realized that the timestamp updates are now working. I feel quite foolish because I probably ran into some browser caching problem when viewing the admin pages -- at least that is the only explanation I can come up with. I did not make changes since sending my e-mail earlier today.
