Hello Nick,

I have opened this file in excel and I saw, that there is no plain text. I
asked excel to output the file format, and excel returned the integer
'-4343'. This output indicates an actual excel format.

I also tried to save this file with the save as option. I selected the
actual excel-format, which was also preselected. After that, I was able to
read this file with jakarata poi.

But my problem is, that I have to read this file and others, too, in an
automatically way. So I can't save these files once again manually.

Has anyone a similar problem?

Kind regards

This is an error that the underlying document isn't a valid OLE2 document.
Are you sure it's not in something like csv or html, with a .xls
extension? Excel tends to claim lots of formats are its own, even when
they're not.

I'd suggest trying to open the document in notepad, to check it's not
plain text. Also, try saving as in excel, and picking .xls, as that'll get
excel to convert it to a real ole2 document
