Can POI (HSSF) read open office files i.e. ".ods" files or
do these files need to be saved in the ".xls" format if using open office.
I am just wondering if i can allow users to select .ods files or to tell
them to save in xls when using open office.
No, it can't.
You can tell them to save as XLS, or use OpenOffice APIs to access .ods
files.
