Hi,

2. Rename to .zip extension

This is because you cannot zip a file by renaming the file's extension.

You will need a zip utility to create the zip file. If you do that then the file ought to be preserved (and identical) when you extract it.

There are quite a few zip utilities - google is your friend.

I am trying to do some comparison to find out what it is about POI 3.5
beta that is causing it to create invalid xlsx files. I am having a
difficult time because when I try to zip a file after unzipping it, the
excel 2007 parser can no longer read it, even if I make no changes to
the files. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Here are the steps I take.

1. Create new file with excel and save as a xlsx.

2. Rename to .zip extension

3. Right click file and select "extract to ...."

4. Delete .zip file

5. Right click on extracted folder and select "Add to xxx.zip"

6. Rename .zip file to .xlsx

7. Try unsuccessfully to open with excel. I get the following
messages:

1. "Excel found unreadable content in "xxx.xlsx". Do you want to
recover the contents of this workbook?"

2. After clicking "Yes", I get "Excel cannot open the
file'xxx.xlsx' because the file format or extension is not valid"

Any Ideas how I can recreate a xlsx file after unzipping it?
