I tried the following: Created 2 cell styles, a green one and an orange one. Set column 0 to the green style and set all the individual cells in another column to the orange style. In both cases, when I recolor individual cells in excel, the other cells of the same color are not affected. So excel must be allocating new cell styles in order to handle the change - or excel has another, simpler mechanism for coloring individual cells.
