Right, option 1 (save as 2003 format) worked, and that's fine for now. I was hoping to support the default format though, to save that extra step.
I'm not sure which one is the default; the file she sent me just had an XLS suffix, but didn't open in Excel 2003. Hopefully it's the XLSX format. I'm glad to hear XLSX will be supported soon.
