Thank you so much Yegor for your reply. Knowing that there is some limitations 
in .ppt format will prevent me pulling some hair from my head.

XSLF merges work pretty well.

Most likely these are limitations of the current implementation. I 
recommenced you to use XSLF (.pptx), it is much more mature than HSLF 
(.ppt).

cropping of images is not supported in HSLF. Post sample code and I 
will see if there is a way to support it .

post sample code. Ellipse is a plain shape that should be copied.
