Raj, Is it a kerberized cluster? Were you able to connect to hiveserver2 with the parameters which is there in the cluster_hive?
Note that test connection is only for the looking up the hive tables and columns while maintaining ranger policies for hive. It doesn't stop you from creating policies and using ranger hive plugin as such.
