Indeed, I wanted to use a Ratis client to connect with a etcd cluster. I see 
there are implementations of etcd raft out there, reprising the proto 
definitions from raft messages and building from there, but I haven’t found one 
that was mature.
Ratis of course would be a better choice.

If I started from scratch, I’d go with Ratis, but I have to account for 
existing.
