Using Facelets (on its own) I am able to run JSF 1.2 on Tomcat 5.5.17. I guess the trouble starts when I start to mix in other technologies. I'll need to re-evaluate my setup.

You will need to look at tomcat 6 or glassfish. I had not realized that facelets was a subproject of JSF 1.2. Humm.... interesting...
