I would just bypass m2e (which I never use anyway) and just type "mvn eclipse:eclipse" from the Shiro root folder in a command-line window and then manually import the projects into Eclipse ( http://www.jroller.com/gmazza/entry/web_service_tutorial#EclipseSetup). It's all pretty quick.
