GraphX is not synonymous with Pregel. To quote the GraphX programming guide <http://spark.apache.org/docs/latest/graphx-programming-guide.html#pregel-api> 'GraphX exposes a variant of the Pregel API.'. There is no compute() function in GraphX - see the Pregel API section of the programming guide for details on how GraphX implements a Pregel-like API
