I've used Tiles for a long time and just recently switched to using
SiteMesh. For those of you thinking, "Oh man, one more new thing to
worry about it- Tiles works for me, forget it," trust me, SiteMesh is
simple..... MUCCHHHHH easier to set up and use than Tiles. The biggest
advantage I've found with using SiteMesh is that you do not need to
create a separate tiles layout definitions for all of you pages and your
forwards make more sense since they forward to JSPs not to tiles pages.
The JSPs aren't even aware that they are being decorated. I set up a
very simple example war using struts and SiteMesh and created a simple
brief set-up document. There's a link on the Struttin With Struts home
page http://www.reumann.net/do/struts/main (It's sort of a quick and
dirty draft so I'm sure there are mistakes, but feel free to make me
aware of them, because I'm lazy and don't feel like proofing it:)
