I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm generally interested in using scripting languages in Struts, and validation seems like one of the likely candidates.

Don Brown has taken a few steps towards hooking BSF into commons-validator; I'm sure he'd be happy to have other interested parties testing it out and/or contributing. Groovy does have a BSF adapter, so it should fit in pretty neatly.

I'm also thinking that one could use just BSF and a chain command to do validation without using commons-validator at all. Of course, then you'd lose the client-side javascript which is my favorite benefit from using commons-validator.
