Just one more thing, Tom. Not only do I think I said essentially what Jim and Erik said but I said the same thing at a more abstract level. I don't think that you really want a DTO in the classical sense. You don't seem to be concerned at all about serialization and movement of data in a serious J2EE environment. But, maybe you are. Too often we buy into these J2EE patterns that are really too heavy and too expensive to code for many applications. Anyway, I think you probably could better use a simple handler in the model to process the data to do your job. You could call that a DTO, but it really is not well named that.
