The first way works......thankyou
 
However, the second way does not :(  I get the following error:
 
exception:
javax.servlet.ServletException: javax/servlet/jsp/el/VariableResolver
root cause:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/servlet/jsp/el/VariableResolver
 
Any ideas?
