I'm not completely familiar with the state of Java implemantations of
Lisp. I did recently download and build Armed Bear Common Lisp, so far
it seems nice, but I haven't figured out how to run Lisp scripts from
the command-line with it yet.

Agreed about reducing the number and size of configuration files.

Please do. I'd love to track this and maybe even help if you can find
something simple enough for this Lisp newbie.
