That is interesting, because, the situation is completely opposite in 
Toronto, and in Canada in general I think.
I just did a quick search on google groups (group tor.jobs) :

returns 2200 jobs

http://groups.google.ca/groups?hl=en&lr=&q=j2ee+group%3Ator.jobs

returns 12800 jobs

All big employers here (Banks, Insurance companies ...) use J2EE. .NET is 
typicaly seen here as something
small companies without any expertise do..
