If you are using <bean:write name = "mybean" property = "key"/> then you must define mybean using <bean:define> tag. for e.g If you set your javabean as myBean in request and want to display it's property key's value then just define it as <bean:define id="bean" name="myBean "/> and to display it use bean:write tag <bean:write name="bean" property="key"/>
