Attendance at the NE JUG presentation of "Struts 2006: An Embarrassment of Riches" topped 230 last Thursday. The last presentation to draw so many attendees was "An Insiders View of Struts" in October 2005. The New England Java Users Group (http://www.nejug.org/) is the largest JUG in the US and second largest in the world.
The Struts 2006 session was an updated version of the recent ApacheCon presentation, announcing the merger of WebWorks with Struts. The second session was an "Action 2 preview" of WebWork 2.2. Ted Husted was joined on stage by Ian Roughley, a WebWork developer specializing in Ajax. An extended question and answer session followed each presentation. One popular topic was whether to start new Struts Action development in WebWork 2.2, in anticipation of Struts Action 2. Another was topic was what Struts Shale brought to the table over plain-old JSF. The presentation started 30 minutes late, due a traffic jam at the door. With the extended Q&A, the meeting ran 90 minutes late. Great crowd. Great night. And, you can't beat the NE JUG snacks. The crowd went through 500 complimentary pizzas before half-time. (No, Wally, not each.) :) -Ted.
