wording was pretty
surprising and -- almost provoking? I'd like to hear other people's thoughts
just for fun. I don't
know who wrote this little piece but I think it sounds pretty haughty?
"Struts is the most popular Java-based Web application framework today, but
that's rapidly
changing. There's a newcomer on the block, a leaner, meaner, better-designed
framework loosely
based on Struts that's poised to dethrone Struts as the reigning king of
Java-based web
application frameworks. That framework, of course, is JavaServer Faces. Craig
McClanahan, the
father of Struts and the co-spec lead for JSF 1.0, has proposed reinventing
Struts for Struts 2.0
as a set of services for JSF applications. That new framework, which has no
direct ties to Struts
as we know it, is called Shale."

Did you know Shale was poised to dethrone Struts? LOL
It has been so poised for some time, or so we've heard. Call me when it
actually dethrones ANYTHING. The same goes for JSF in general.
Sorry, that probably sounds harsher than I intend it to... I am more
than a little jaded, but I'm not trying to piss anyone off... my point
is simply that we've been hearing this type of thing seemingly forever
now, it's nothing new. I for one frankly just tune it out as just so
much hype.
It does seem like there might be some seriously conflicting visions of
Struts 2.0, at least based on this summation and what has been talked
about lately as far as WebWork goes. When that all gets sorted out one
way or the other, I'll start caring again.
