There is nothing wrong with existing codebase - it just works and serves it puprose. But AFAIK development community of XD1 just died out, and due to outdated architecture and awkward templating language it's almost impossible to keep up ( for example ) with hibernate. I put my efforts in XD2 and its plugins, and there are users.
