So I´m currently thinking about what version would be the best choice. As I need a stable version for a "real-life-mission" I think I should stay away from the 2.0-Version, although it sounds pretty interesting.
Struts 2.0 is based on WebWork 2. We've made very few non-cosmetic changes, as can be gleaned from the relese notes. * http://cwiki.apache.org/WW/release-notes-200.html The code is stable, mature, and battle-tested. Right now, we're mainly going back to see if we crossed all the t's and dotted all the i's when we moved the code from Open Symphony to the ASF.
So what about the 1.3.5 or 1.2.x versions? I read a lot of indices, that 1.3.5 is close to GA, but would you recommend to use it or better stay with 1.2.x?
The 1.x versions are all backwardly compatible from one milestone to the next. So anything you write for 1.2 is going to be a build away from 1.3.
As there any disadvantages in 1.3.5? Where does the future development go? Is there any further support for 1.2.x or will we all go the 1.3.x-way?
The only question is whether there is a new feature in 1.3 that you want to use from the git-go (like wildcards). * http://struts.apache.org/announce.html#a20060818.1 Otherwise, try to get the project approved for Struts 1.2 and Struts 1.3 (when it is deemed GA), or better yet the "best available version of Apache Struts", and have at it. -- HTH, Ted. * http://www.husted.com/struts/
