I'm *not* using the filter attribute! The message is issued and processing is halted as soon as the taglib statement is encountered, regardless of what's being used from it. You cannot use the html-el tags in 1.3.8 at all. I'll try removing the <type> attribute from the filter attribute in the TLD in struts-el-1.3.8.jar.
