I am interested in the actual writing of custom tags and I also hoped that by
learning how to do this it would help facilitate my previous unanswered
question of how to access the action through scriptlet code in the jsp.  

I know the action is on the ValueStack but I am not sure of the "correct"
way of accessing it.  As a temporary work around I just pop off the top
value which seems to always be the action that brought me to the jsp.  This
approach seems wrong however and I am sure there must be a better way.

These are however two separate issues that I am still trying to figure out.
