It seems to me that he is trying to do something which Struts was not
designed for which kind of takes away the point of it.

If you tell us what you are wanting to do and why there might be
something else out there rather than hacking a solution.

Hello.

If you just follow a link <a href="SomeAction>test</a> the browser will
render the resulting page. You can in your action just return null; and
nothing is sent to the browser.

But that will give you a blank page.

You probably will want to do a javascript XMLHttpRequest that will
"return null" in the action. That way nothing will happen on the browser
side.
