How to catch exceptions

By the way, I'm using thrift on the platform of windows.
Hi:
I am using thrift for RPC applications. I found that if the RPC server went 
down in progress, the client would get the runtime error and be terminated. 
Is there any way to catch this exception and keep the client running?
